Sandra’s Dress

As usual I tend to run with a theme for a while and then jump to something else…

But in the mean time…

The hallway of the Head Lightkeepers house – Cape Otway

February 6, 2010

I had walked this hallway a few dozen times that day already, and I knew that if the light held, it would make for a perfect image.
But as time passed and the day wore on, the sky above the Lighthouse darkened with heavy cloud and the light level dropped lower and lower… I guess you could say I experienced some nervous anticipation waiting for the lovely bride Christina to ready herself. (But not nearly as much as Simon I suspect!!)

With the threat of rain quickly becoming a reality, the light dropped lower still… But I was ready for that.

Engagement Session – Royal Botanic Gardens

February 5, 2010

Hot on the heals of my Ballarat Engagement session post, I thought I would post a quick sneak peek series from Celia and Anthony’s e-session at the Royal Botanic Gardens. It was a relaxed and casual session, just the way it should be. And the rain didnt put us off too much either!!

It’s the perfect time to post this as the second image fits so well with they current theme I seem to be running and their wedding photo’s are almost ready to view as well!!

Ballarat Engagement Session

February 3, 2010

I have been sitting on this e-session for a while now, saving it for a little closer to Liza and James’ wedding day.

We spent a little time in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, which is just across the road from their reception venue, Pipers by the lake. So its obviously a handy location for photography, and an awesome one at that!!

And I am really looking forward to their wedding, a part from the fact that they are a very cool and down to earth couple, the ceremony is in the James Oddie Room of the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery (How cool is THAT!!) and its in less than 2 weeks !!!

In the garden

February 2, 2010

After the buzz of the ceremony, and the hi-jinx of the various family group photo’s… we quietly wandered the garden…

Storm over Ballarat

January 31, 2010

I was lucky enough to spend a little time in Ballarat today. Nearly 2 hours melted away in the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery as I wandered from room to room, soaking it all in. At one point I found myself in the James Oddie room, standing centimeters away from the dramatic and moody 19th Century Maritime painting A bore on the Hooghli (By Norwegian Johan Jakob Bennetter) which really put things into perspective… apart from it being a powerful and emotive image… its sheer size, measuring more than 2.2m across was quite daunting. And also made the average 20×30″ sized photographic print seem like a bit of a joke by comparison to be honest !!

I emerged from the Gallery a little troubled. On the surface, a strange sense of joy, peace and dare I say enlightenment… But I couldn’t quite shake the feeling that deep down in side I had just been put firmly in my place by Artists that have not drawn breath in a hundred years… Humbled. It is true, I did still have a lot to learn.

Just before unlocking my car door I caught a flash of lightning to the north and standing there on the footpath with more than an hour until my next “engagement” (to photograph another engagement session for one of my awesome Ballarat couples) I decided to open my mind and be inspired.

Soon I was surrounded by paddocks and heading East, the city was behind me somewhere and just I kept driving… turning South as heavy rain began to fall… Looking for that one perfect place…  The clouds building to the North-East as I made one last turn to face them… Driving down a narrow gravel road… with very passing second the scene got better and better…

Thats exactly what I was looking for. (And to be honest, the 750pixel wide version above does the image an injustice!!)
