Sneek Peek – Mick and Jolene

February 28, 2009

This is the sneaky peek at Mick and Jolene’s wedding @ Fortnum’s in Sassafras on Friday. They couldn’t have asked for better luck, with the temperature not as high as expected, and then a few BIG drops of rain during the ceremony to top it all off.

Special thanks to both Mick and Jolene for allowing Ryan and I to be a part of your wedding day (And the best part was we were both wearing Kilts as well!!)

And it’s not often you get to photograph a wedding in Melbourne with 4 scots in the bridal party, but you will have to wait for those ones!!

Image of the Week (4)

February 27, 2009

Image of the week is a regular blog post running every Friday (hopefully, this is only the forth post… so who knows !) with the aim of showing you something a little different.

This post was supposed to be posted on Friday Morning, but for some reason the scheduling feature on the blog didn’t post it… and I wasn’t here to notice it.

Better late than never – here is this weeks Image.

Crazy Days of Summer

February 25, 2009

As many of you will know, this is currently “Wedding Season” so to speak, and I am flat out shooting weddings almost every weekend. This is normal, business as usual, and its just the way I like it. But the unusual thing is that over the last 10 days or so I have had as many enquiries a day as I usually get in a week !! Thats why I have not written a blog post for a few days, even though I do have a couple of 1/2 done posts waiting for images to complete them.

Now I am not saying all this attention its a bad thing, because its not at all!! In fact its always good to be loved, but things are absolutely crazy at the moment, in fact, beyond crazy!!

So if you are reading this, and you are thinking of making an enquiry, please DO!! Just let me know your wedding date and location for starters and I can then give you my undivided attention.

What can I say, I LOVE MY JOB !!

Image of the Week (3)

February 20, 2009

Image of the week is a regular blog post running every Friday (hopefully, this is only the third post… so who knows !) with the aim of showing you something a little different.

Here is this weeks Image, shot last night when Ryan (my assistant) and I took a quick trip to Newport Skate Park.

And for those that are interested, it was captured by :-

Canon 5D & Canon 70-200mm/2.8 IS  @ – ISO100 – f/2.8 @ 1/1250sec

And you are right, its not Wedding Photography, or Portrait Photography… So why did I shoot it? Well, 3 reasons really.

Firstly, my young assistant Ryan has a real passion for Skate photography and its always good to shoot things you love.

Secondly, Skate is not something I regularly shoot, so its good to break out of my comfort zone and…

Thirdly,  I got to play. Shooting a lot of different images in a low pressure environment.

So there you have it. Oh, and please feel free to comment :)

Having a Baby…??

February 12, 2009

Everyone Love Baby Feet !!!

Everyone Loves Baby Feet !!!

As many regular readers will know, we here at Pixxil Photography are a large blended family with 6 awesome kids. This is one reason I find children’s portraiture so easy I suppose, with so many opportunities and so much practice !! We do hear all the usual jokes like, “wow, you guys must not own a TV !!” and “Is there something in the water…?” and all those other gems… and after a while, they are not nearly as funny as people think they are… hehe

Anyway…after much discussion, my wife Narelle and I have decided to have another Baby !!

We are not pregnant yet and we haven’t started “trying” yet either, but I thought I would announce it to the world.

So stay tuned for further announcements and also some Pregnancy and Baby photography specials as well, once we have a “bun in the oven” !!

Overnewton Castle and Valentines day.

February 11, 2009

It’s only 3 more sleeps until I get to photograph Jason and Carmen’s wedding at Overnewton Castle in Keilor and I must say I am more than a little excited.

And not just because the Bride and Groom are such genuinely friendly people, but also Overnewton is one of those locations that is a real joy to attend and I have not been there in a while.

Overnewton Castle - Keilor - Melbourne Wedding Photographer - Robb Duncan

The impressive Overnewton Castle - Keilor

Overnewton Castle was built in 2 stages, with the colonial bluestone homestead built in 1849 and then the addition, 10 years later, of the Scottish baronial style wing. With 35 rooms and set among beautiful English gardens, Overnewton is as impressive as it is tranquil.

So you can easily tell why I love the place so much!

The Melbourne Zoo – A handful of Primates

February 10, 2009

Apart from working full time as a wedding and portrait photographer, I also have interests in other area’s of photography as well. I suppose it could be fair to say that they are hobbies as I don’t actively derive income from them.

I have blogged about shooting various landscape images, especially using Infrared, and also some Photojournalism work as well, but I also LOVE to Photograph animals (it’s actualy the reason I go into photography in the first place).

So last month I took a little trip to the Melbourne Zoo and spent the day enjoying the animals, the heat and the crowds. Here are just a few of the HUNDREDS of images I captured.
