I have had a number of emails and comments in the last month or 2, from both clients and other photographers who have noticed that I seem to be using a particular lens a great deal lately… Especially for a lot of my personal work.
To be honest (and humble), I was surprised to find out that there were so many people who actually read my blog often enough and were intelligent enough, to notice anything. So, I thank you for that.
The lens of course is my cute little Canon 50mm f/1.4

Costing little more than $600, it’s small and rather un-impressive on the outside, (unlike its +$2K bigger brother the 50/1.2), but as the saying goes, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. And there must be something special about it, because it’s the second one I have owned, the first coming to a sticky end about 5 years back. And while I am willing to admit that I do drool for a 50/1.2, just not quite enough to purchase one… There are a few other lenses on the waiting list, and my 50/1.4 is still at least as good as I am.
Anyway, its a lens that I didn’t use for a long time, for 3-4 years I was preoccupied with Wide Angle lenses and Big Zooms, but every weekend, the 50mm was always waiting patiently in my camera bag, ever reliable, always the bridesmaid, never the bride… so to speak (Pun intended!). So, I wouldn’t say its an emerging favourite… it’s more like I am revisiting an old favourite.
Anyway, now that I have gotten all deep and meaningful over a piece of camera equipment, I think it is the perfect time to end the post.
So there you have it, feel free to comment.
