Reception Party Animals

March 8, 2010

I noticed that the wedding reception doesn’t get that much blog time, which is weird because the reception takes up 30-40% of the actual wedding day!!

So I did a quick check through some of my recent wedding reception party images and gathered together a few I would like to share.

I looooooove receptions shots!! And I agree Robb, they don’t get enough love. Your shots are really wonderful, but I really really love that first one. Your b&w conversion is just perfect.

(oh and I am so envious of your 24mm! I think it’s my next purchase :)

My set-up is simple and I vary it depending on the location and the desired result.

Here is a quick run-down of the gear, and I will write a little something about how I use it in a future post.

I typically use the following gear and mostly in E-TTL Mode.

    3x 580EX (mkI or mkII)
    2x lightstand
    1x ST-E2
    1x 5DII & 24L or 50L

Images 1,3,4 & 7 are all using on camera bounced flash.
    Typical settings are
    Flash +1 stop
    ambient -2 stops.

Images 2,5 & 6 are using one flash on a stand as main light and a second one on camera as fill.

    Main light +1 stop
    Fill light -1 stop
    Ambient -2 stops

Sometimes I use 2x OCF controlled by a 3rd on camera or with an ST-E2… I like the flexibility
